The thing is: WE WANT STYLE! We wore those 5"-6" stillettos in multiple colors in our youth, like younger women do currently. Now we're lowering the heel height, but not lowering quality or style. Shoe designers and manufacturers should learn that Baby Boomer Women are MAJOR shoe buyers; we'll spend good money on shoes plus want STYLE and COMFORT. That means give us great looks please without the toe-pinching, feet soreness, burning & swelling some shoes promote. Moreover, the higher the shoe height, the more those shoes place the majority of your weight on the ball of your foot - a disaster that could lead you to the podiatrist.
The picture at right and the first group of pictures below gives you shoe styles and heel heights that are right for many of us:

2"-4" heel height, good leather, great quality in their construction, and flexible feeling vs. stiff shoes are what works best. These are fine shoes to wear in warmer months or climates. Btw, you'll find many of the shoes above at Piperlime.com. Click here: http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/categorySearch.do?cid=35977#department=136

Aerosoles are wonderful flexible shoes with style! I wish I could try on every pair they've got because the inside padding and flexible leather make the shoes so comfortable. Plus, the looks keep you current and fashion forward. For Fall and Winter, check out their tall boots and shorty boots. Luv them!
Though Aerosoles have their own stores plus online presence, you can often find them in department stores too. They also come in a wide variety of sizes as well as widths.

I've bought shoes online, but usually I need to try them on in the store first. Still, some great return policies as well as free shipping & handling make shoe e-tailers very attractive. Moreover, it's so cool to get a package in the mail with shoes you order! Go to ShoeBuy.com for good reasonably-priced shoes: http://www.shoebuy.com/womens-dress-shoes-all.htm

You know I'd be remiss not to put Naturalizer Shoes in here. In my late 30s I picked up my first pair, primarily as dress shoes with suits. I walk a lot and give professional presentations as a salesperson, so I desired conservative comfort on my feet. I had been wearing Nine West heels and flats. My initial concept of Naturalizers was that my mom and older generations were wearing them - yes, they do have shoes for older women needing heavy soles and padding. However, I changed my tune when I saw the variety of styles and comfort they offered. Then I learned that several professional women wear them; even out for dinner and dancing. I was sold, and I hope you have or had great experiences with Naturalizers too! Click here: http://www.naturalizer.com/en-US/Womens/_/_/Dress+Shoes/_/Products.aspx

In addition to ShoeBuy.com, there is Zappos.com; the largest online shoe e-tailer. I've purchased shoes from Zappos, and when I've had fit problems they easily accept returns. Look at their fantastic colors of running shoes! (Note: No running now - I'm a power-walker. But can wear these shoes to walk). Give Zappos a try at: www.zappos.com.

Say, if you luv Flip Flops as much as I do - buy them on the cheap! ($4-$20 per pair) I get about four pair each Spring to rouse around in outside. Sooner or later the thong pulls out of the hole on one of them. But I like the colors and freedom my feet enjoy.
